Immunize Kansas Coalition Creates Vaccine Highlight Card to Reach Pregnant Women

November 9, 2023

Since last year, we have observed a decrease in vaccination rates among pregnant women. According to the CDC’s yearly vaccination coverage article, there was a 6.1% reduction in flu and a 7.7% reduction in Tdap vaccination rates for pregnant women in the U.S. To reach the pregnant population and boost vaccination rates, IKC created their “Protect Your Baby with Vaccines During Pregnancy” highlight card, which illustrates the recommended vaccines during pregnancy. The resource was designed to make vaccine information accessible with easily understandable messaging for community members in any setting. To reach multiple audiences across the state, cards are available in English and Spanish.

Viewers will find which vaccines are needed during pregnancy to keep themselves and their babies protected from influenza, whooping cough (pertussis), RSV, and COVID-19. The card dives into how vaccination during pregnancy passes antibodies to little ones before they can receive their own vaccines! For a better understanding of each vaccine, readers will also learn why protection is needed against each of these diseases and when to get vaccinated. A QR code to the CDC’s Vaccines During and After Pregnancy page is included for additional information.

Find these highlight cards and others in our growing library of easy-to-understand resources, perfect for distributing at community events.
