#KansasFightsFlu Collegiate Challenge Insights Summary

February 22, 2023

The 2022-2023 #KansasFightsFlu Collegiate Flu Challenge results are in! This flu season kicked off the Collegiate Flu Challenge, a campaign created by Immunize Kansas Coalition, KFMC Health Improvement Partners, and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, to help colleges and universities raise awareness on the importance of influenza vaccination. This year, nine colleges and universities registered for the challenge: Bethel College, Emporia State University, Fort Hays State University, Kansas State University, McPherson College, Ottawa University, University of Kansas, Washburn University, and Wichita State University.

Students were asked to scan a QR code and complete a short survey to be identified as a participant in the challenge. Among the nine registered colleges and universities, seven participated, with 345 students included in the following insights. Overall, four out of five students reported receiving a flu shot last year. Of the respondents, 87% were female and 79% were male. An overwhelming majority (92%) indicated they were not hesitant to receive a flu vaccination.

As the challenge has come to an end, the #KansasFightsFlu Collegiate Challenge Committee would like to thank all of the participating colleges and universities for raising the rates of flu vaccination on campus. We would also like to give a big shout-out to Ottawa Univeristy for having the highest percentage of students complete a survey post-vaccination. Join us to be part of next year's challenge to increase vaccinations and help fight the flu.
